An eerie but beautiful voice rippled along the edges of the little pond where animals often come to drink and play in the water. The voice echoed from tree to tree, jingling along the wonderful forest clearing and reaching out far farther than a normal voice would have. The voice was singing, a haunting melody that seemed to embrace the entire scenery within its spell. As the song rose from the beautiful sky blue mare’s heart, so she rose on her wings from the side of the pond, hovering gently just above water, so that the tips of her hooves drew circles onto the surface of the water while she danced, a joyful dance to the spring and the new life she could almost feel sprouting all around her.
Echo felt as though she had never been happier. She always felt that way when spring came, the animals of the forest, especially the birds, being her beloved friends. Her eerie, soft voice sang to welcome the new spring, the time of love and new life. Her slender body moved to the soft rhythm of her song, dancing, swirling, her golden mane glimmering and flowing in the gentle breeze. This was a magical moment in time, a soft moment, a moment when the world seemed to stay still for her, as she danced her haunting dance over the pond, certain that there was no one to see, no one to witness her dance to the spring. She preferred it this way – there was a silence in the woods when she was alone, silence that created the feeling that the world existed only for this moment that in her mind stretched to an eternity.
Eyes closed, Echo danced and sang.

Echo's song was a simple yet beautiful melody, and she let her voice soar as she caught the words of an ancient way of speech - words long since forgotten.
"Sumer is ycomen in, Loude sing cuckou! Groweth seed and bloweth meed, And springth the wode now. Sing cuckou!
Ewe bleteth after lamb, Loweth after calve cow, Bulloc sterteth, bucke verteth, Merye sing cuckou! Cuckou, cuckou, Wel singest thou cuckou: Ne swik thou never now!"
And after getting to the end of the song she began again, the melody far more haunting than the tune she had once heard, long long ago.
[[Nope, the words have no spelling errors ;D. Sorry if someone thinks I'm being mean in putting this song here, but I rather love it; it's written in Middle English, which means the English language as it was spoken around the 14th and 15th centuries]]

Within the depth of the forest, the blue unicorn hunted around the plants, occasionally picking out an odd leaf and adding it to his bag. He had grown accustom to hanging around the forest; only recently had he come back to Xanadia, but he wasn't quite prepared to return to the city and its inhabitants. He had his reasons...
Yet NeonCobalt was lonely, and being lonely does get to the heart and soul after a while. He guessed his only friends where the woodland critters, and no matter how cheesy that sounded, it was the truth. Today, his companion was a little bird, a lively, smart little blue tit (don't get any wrong ideas, its a species of bird.). Actually, it was a common companion, oddly enough. It would hop around, pull the hair on his head or watch the stallion pick certain leaves, occasionally breaking into song. And in return, he found himself talking to the bird, sometimes amazed at himself for doing so.
As NeonCobalt, knelt down and broke free a dark purple leaf, his little friend nestled itself in the bag, pulling at the bag fabrics. Suddenly his little companion flung up its head as though listening to something.
"What is it little one?" The stallion asked mildly, considering the bird with a puzzled frown. For an answer, it darted off but landed on a nearby branch and twittered to him, as though beckoning him to follow. Intrigued by the birds behaviour, NeonCobalt got up, collected his supplies and did exactly that.
He followed the bird as it fluttered here and there, stopping occasionally to wait for the unicorn to catch up, who took his time. Secretly, he hoped that the blue tit was not going to lead him back to the city; he had no desire to go back... just yet.
Then he heard it. An chilling, strange song that made him quiver, yet the voice who sang it was... well, it was beautiful, but still a bit frightning. NeonCobalt froze, yet no warning of danger came to him. The bird landed near by as though confused.
"Keep quiet Little One. Oh and if anything bad happens to me... I'm blaming you." He muttered to the blue tit, which ruffled its feathers in amusement. "but I guess that is stupid to do that. I'll blame my eye then..." Sounds just as stupid... I wonder who it is though...
He moved in a bit closer, then it came to view, even with the plants in the way. It was a pegasus, dancing lightly upon the water, her movements graceful and enchanting. Without knowing, NeonCobalt rose a bit to get a better view for his left eye, and he watched trapped by his curiousity and his want to listen to her music...

Echo swirled around and around, and then suddenly a movement caught her eye. She flapped her wings and stopped in mid-flight, startled by the sudden appearance of the stallion. She stopped singing but continued to hover above water, looking at the stallion from under her eyelashes.
"Oh, I am sorry," she said, "I thought I was alone."

Caught... The unicorn sighed and stepped out from behind the plants. There was no point in hiding now that he'd been seen.
NeonCobalt considered the other with an orange eye. She seemed kindly enough, and he felt relaxed like before, so she must be of no threat to him...
The blue stallion shook his head. "Nah. It is me who should be apologising." NeonCobalt said. "I shouldn't of interrupted your lovely singing, nor disturb your happy moment. If I've destroyed the atmosphere with my presence, I will leave, so you can continue."

Echo did not think he had spoiled anything, however. She hovered from the lake to the shore. Her hooves touched the bank softly and she smiled.
"There is no need for you to leave," she said softly, and her voice still rang eerily in the air. There was a strange echo in her voice, which gave her voice an odd, spell-like quality. "I am just as happy to have company as I was to sing." She smiled. "My name is Echo."

"Great then." The unicorn smiled. "I admit to feeling like having a bit of company." Speaking of company, where did that bird go?... From where he was he couldn't see it. oh well... it'll catch up with me later like usual...
"Nice to meet you Echo." He said, nodding his head in greeting. "Mine is Neon Cobalt."

Echo smiled to him in a charming manner.
"A pleasure," she said, nodding her head. "And might I inquire what brings you to these part of woods tonight? If you don't mind me asking, of course."
She took a few steps towards the edge of the pond, lowered her delicate neck and took a sip of the water. The singing had dried her mouth quite a bit.

((It is night time? oopps.... I didn't know that. Oh well ^-^))
"Don't mind at all." Neon Cobalt said. "I was just collecting a few plants for some supplies. Nothing more." The unicorn shrugged.
"What about yourself? Why are you out tonight?... Or do you often come out to this pond and do some singing?"

Echo giggled, and her laughter bounced from tree to tree.
"Oh, I am such a wanderer," she said with a smile. "I tend to come here to sing and dance when I feel like it. The spring just gets me on such a wonderful mood."

"Ohh, so you're a wanderer..." The blue unicorn raised eyeridges/eyebrows. He didn't seem to notice how unnatural her voice was to echo the way it did; he was more interested in why he hadn't heard her singing before. So that is why I haven't come across her or heard her singing in these parts before... It makes sense now...
"Well, I guess I am kinda the sort you are then. I'm not saying that sing and dance, but I don't really stay in one place for too long either." NeonCobalt grinned. "Spring is a great season, isn't it?"
The stallion had had his share of fond memories of the season, and he liked it the spring weather.

Echo smiled.
"Oh, indeed," she said. "The spring is the best time of year." Then she paused to consider. "Well, then again, I do like summer as well. And autumn. And winter is absolutely wonderful with all the whiteness all around. Still, I do love spring, when everything comes to life." She smiled. "And love... yes, love does tend to be in the air during springtime."

NeonCobalt shifted to the side uncomfortablly at the mentioning of L-O-V-E. Ahh yes, he had his share of that too, but not all of those memories where fond and pleasant.
He considered her mentioning of the emotion and the seasons though. "I guess, but I assure you, love is all year round..."

Echo chuckled.
"Yes, of course," she said and swished her tail. "Only young hearts seem more easily tempted at this time of year."

The stallion laughed easily, though it had a bitter touch; he realised he wasn't at all that young... well not like a young adult.
"Yeah, you got that right." He said with a smile. "I guess I don't feel as young hearted as I should, seeing as spring doesn't seem to have much effect on me..." But he had the oddest feeling that not all was going to go according to his words.
"What about yourself? Would you consider yourself to be one of the young hearted?" He asked, simply out of difficulty of finding something else to say.
