Its just a tree, nothing to be scared of. Just a tree in the dark. Your a grown pony now, you should not be afraid of the dark. You can still see the Moon through the trees, you know the Moon will protect you, why are you so scared then. There are no monsters in Xanadia, there are no monsters in Xanadia, there are no....
Sun stepped timidly on a twig and as it snapped beneath her she jumped, and then laughed nervously. She had been out at the temple ruins, praying to Apollo, when she finally realized he had left the sky. She hadn't realized she was that deep in trance that she would let herself get stuck, out in the woods, alone, in the dark.
Not that she was afraid of the dark. Only foals were afraid of the dark. Sun was not afraid of the dark.
Another timid step and she froze. She had heard something. Or someone. Deep breaths Sun, nothings going to get you. You would have seen a sign in your trance if anything was going to get you. But she had been so deep in her trance she hadn't even seen the sun go down.
Hail fair Moon, ruler of night. Guard me and mine until the light. Yes, she was safe, she might be one of the Sun's children, but that didn't mean the Moon would forget her.
"Goddess help me get out of here quickly and safetly," she whispered to herself and started to creep along again. If she heard another noise that would be it, she would break into a run.

Fury glided over the moonlit forest. The temple ruins were his favourite place, and he often came there to meditate in the night time when there was no one else there. He had been feeling nervous of late, though he could not tell why. There seemed to be a strange presence in Xanadia, which he wasn't sure if he liked.
Suddenly he saw movement from below him. He flicked his ears back and forth, and slowed his flight until he was fully stopped in the air, beating his magnificent, silver-tipped wings in order to remain still. There was someone below, walking very quietly and timidly away from the temple. It seemed to be a yellow earthling.
Strange, Fury thought to himself. There is usually not anyone here at this hour. Perhaps the poor thing is lost.
So the kind old pony decided to go and ask the earthling if there was anything he could do. He thought it was not good for her to be wandering all alone like this in the middle of the night. So he spread his wings and glided noiselessly down, until he landed in front of the young pony.
"Good evening," Fury said with his pleasant, vibrant voice.

As a white form suddenly appeared before Sun she yelped in surprise and shrank back. Then she laughed nervously again at herself - just a white peg. "Goodness sakes you scared me," she said with a hoof to her heart, which was beating hard enough she thought it might be best to keep her hoof there just in case it broke through. At then least she could catch it.
She looked the pony over, noting that although he looked young, his eyes spoke centuries. "What are you doing out here so late?"

Fury smiled a little.
"I often come to the Temple at nights," he said. "To meditate. It is much quieter here then. I am sorry to have frightened you. I only thought to ask if you were perhaps lost. There is usually not much people here at this hour."

"Oh," Sun said and blushed, she felt rather stupid now. "No, I wasn't lost. I was in trance and let the sun go down on me. And I thought I heard something and... well its silly anyways."
There was an akward pause as she tried to think of something to say that wouldn't make her sound like a scared little kid. "So, uh, you only come here at night?" How creepy she thought to herself.

Fury shrugged his wings. He was not very comfortable around other ponies, even if he did not exactly dislike them. He glanced back towards the temple and then smiled again to the other pony.
"Well, I come sometimes during the day, too," he said calmly. "The last time was..." His forehead wrinkled as he attempted to recall for the last time when he had felt the need to greet the sun instead of the moon. After a few moments his brow cleared off, and he smiled contentedly. "Oh, yes, it was a beautiful summer day, some hundred years ago or so. I had seen an important dream, and... but never mind. It is not significant now."
Fury swished his tail and looked at the younger pony with his ears pricked forward.
"I have no such rush to the temple this time, however," he said in a friendly manner. "May I escort you to the city? It is a long while since I was in the city last time, and I am rather feeling like a stroll."

(meep sorry! Been a crazy busy week/weekend!)
Hundred years ago or so? This pony really was worldly! Sun smiled at the referance to the bright day that she had missed by only a hundred years or so. She loved those bright sunny days. In fact, she got rather depressed at night or when the sky was overcast and rainy.
"Yes, an escort through the woods might be nice right about now." Sun wasn't about to actually admit she was scared, because she wasn't, but it was always nice to have someone (some who seemed rather brave at that) to walk through the woods with. In the dark. When there were strange noises and shadows and...
Another twig snapped as she stepped forward to fall in line with Fury and she jumped. A nervous laugh followed and her ears fell to the sides of her head in embarrasement. "Heh, sorry."

(Aw, it's all right. We all have those. Fury smiled to Sun, quite happy to have some company to the city. He had been planning on going there soon in any case, and now might be as good a time as any to finally do so. And this pony appeared rather nice. As she jumped at the snap of the twig she stepped on, he smiled in an understanding sort of way. Not everyone were night creatures, like himself. "Quite all right, I assure you," he said in a friendly manner. He flailed his ear back and forth, listening to the sounds of the still night. "The forest gets a little spooky at this time of the night." He looked down at the younger pony, a bit distracted by the thought that he didn't know her name, and that he had forgotten to introduce himself. My, that was not at all like a gentleman. "Oh... I am sorry to be so terribly rude as not to introduce myself right away. My name is White Fury, but you can call me Fury, if you like. And may I inquire your name?"

"Yeah, a little spooky," the yellow pony admitted with a blush, ears still at her sides. They perked up again as he formally introduced himself and she smiled brightly.
"Sun Shimmer, pleasure to meet you. Most call me Sun or Sunny," and my dad calls me Shimmery, she thought to herself with an inner eyeroll.
"So, were you alive when the temples here were actually in use. You know, not locked away deep in the forest?" It was perhaps a little bold of her to ask, and maybe a bit impolite, but she was very interested in the history of the temples and who originally used them.

Fury nodded his head once more when hearing her name. He got slightly confused for her telling she could be called either Sun or Sunny - Fury didn't much like things being too complicated, and would have preferred clear instructions as to how to call her. While pondering upon this sudden dilemma, he only realised she had been asking him a question a while later, and could not, despite his best efforts, recall what the question had been.
"Sorry? I am afraid I missed your question," he said, looking at the mare apologetically. "My mind wanders... er... Sun."
He decided it would be most appropriate name to use of her. To use the entire name would obviously have been far too formal, having given her the permission to call him by the nickname as well, but "Sunny" was definitely far too casual. He was not a foal, after all, and no elderly stallion would call a mare with that type of a name unless she was his wife or other.
He realised he let his mind wander again. Old age comes not alone, he thought to himself sadly as he steeled himself in order to hear her question this time.

It seemed as if Sun could practically see the peg's mind wandering and she blushed at having asked such an impolite question. "N..nothing. I shouldn't have asked. Sorry."
She strode on in silence for a moment while thinking of a less rude way to phrase her question. "So the temples weren't always covered in trees were they?"
She threw a look over her shoulder before realizing that it was too dark to see the temples anylonger. In fact, all she could see now were the orbs that forever circled the forest. In the daylight they seemed bright and cheery, but now they seemed like restless spirits forever wandering the earth in search of... what? Another soul to trap in the endless wandering? A young pony like herself caught out much too late?
A shiver ran down her yellow spine and she gulp back a yelp of fear as she turned bright eyes to the pegasus.

Fury was a little concerned at the mare telling him it had been nothing. He feared he might have been impolite towards her. He sighed in his mind. He had spent too long time alone. Echo had been right when she had said he should spend more time with other ponies. He was forgetting how to conduct himself.
"So the temples weren't always covered in trees were they?"
Fury smiled to the question a little dreamily. He rather liked the temple the way it was now, all in ruins and half-covered by forest. It held spirits now, and the soul of the forest lingered in the cold stones. Magic was stronger here, he thought, than in many other places in Xanadia. Of course, in Xanadia there was magic everywhere.
"Oh, no," he said with a nod. "The temple once stood. But it was such a long time ago."
Just then he noticed her gulp and was suddenly aware of the fear in the mare. Fury felt a warmth in his heart. Poor youngling, she must never have been in the dark forest around the temple this late at night before.
He spread his other wing, glimmering in the moonlight, over the mare so that it covered her like a gentle, caring arm, or a warm cloak against the dangers of the night.
"Here now," he said kindly. "Don't be afraid. There are good spirits here, to guard us."

Sun felt like a little baby - here this peg had been around since the time the temples actually stood and the forest had been no more than grass and she was frightened of a little dark and the orbs that had never hurt her.
"Sorry," she said very quietly as he put his wing around her for comfort. "It's not that I don't like the dark, really, its just that I'm a Pythia and I'm used to the light and the sun and not the shadows that the moon throws."
Ears dropping as she hung her head in shame, Sun clomped on next to the peg, hoping they would reach the city soon and she could hide away in her always fire-lit room from the dark and this stallion.

Fury noticed her drooping and was quite startled to realise he had hurt her somehow. He hadn't meant to. Then he realised she felt embarrassed about getting so frightened, and smiled kindly.
"Don't be embarrassed," he said and nudged her with his wing playfully. "Most people get afraid of the dark sometimes. For a child of the Sun it is quite understandable. For me, the situation has been a bit reversed, of course. I recall when I stepped out into the sunlight after a long session of meditation in the night-time, and I was nearly scared out of my wits at the brightness. I must have looked real ridiculous huddled on the ground like that, my hooves over my eyes and my wings around me so none of that light would get to me. I got used to it, of course, but it was quite terrifying at first."
He hoped he'd manage to make her feel better.

A smile crept over the yellow face as Fury told his story. Sun couldn't imagine being afraid in the sunlight, much as he probably couldn't imagine being afraid of the dark. Both were rediculous, so she felt much better.
Ears perking back up, and standing a little straighter, Sun stopped dragging her feet although she was still looking around rather wearily at the blue orbs that were flying by.
"Yes, you did make me feel better. Thank you sir."
