Echo's Song

A dark red mare with purple hair stepped into the forest. She tossed her mane back, looking around the forest. She loved the fact that the trees were purple. She smiled as she looked up at the beautiful trees. She trotted further into the forest.

She then heard voices as she was trotting. She stopped suddenly as she saw two ponies ahead of her. She trotted up to them and gave them her prettiest smile. "Hello." She said to them.

Echo turned her delicate head to regard the newcomer. She fluttered her wings a little, and then folded them more closely to her body, examining the mare with her eyes.

"Hello," she said softly, her voice echoing beautifully as usual.

NeonCobalt shrugged as though it was nothing.

"Yeah, I'm an Xanadian and yeah I haven't been in the city for a good long time." The blue unicorn gave the pegasus a friendly smile. "Like I said before, I'm not the type to say in one place for too long."

However, the smile was gone from his face when his ears flicked in the direction of the new arrival. Not only that, whatever gentle firey glow was in his eye was now gone as it considered the intruder.

She seemed alright, nothing dangerous or such... though he wasn't too impressed with her timing; NeonCobalt would have much prefer to have contined talking to Echo, or let her sing him another song (He'd come to like her voice).

The stallion eased though, and managed to say "hi." as casually as he could to the red mare. Yet, he couldn't quite bring himself to smile...

Echo nodded to NeonCobalt's words but didn't feel at ease with the situation. She had nothing against the newcomer, as such, but the stallion's coldness affected how she felt. She did not like being in hostile situations, that was the reason why she avoided crowds - there were bound to be hostile situations among crowds.

She was unsure as to how to reply to him, or to her, for that matter, so she remained silent for a while, trying to think of something nice to say, to break up the icy silence that ensued.

((Ok. I just needed Red Velvet to go somewhere, and talk to some ponies, hopefully none of you mind her coming to talk to Echo and Neoncobalt. ))

The beautiful red mare smiled. "Hello, my name is Red Velvet." She said in her usually pretty voice. "I just came through the forest because, well, it's just so beautiful, and I saw you guys ahead, so I wondered who you were." She explained to the two ponies.

Echo smiled a bit to the mare. She was always kind to everyone until they were proven undeserving of kindness.

"I am Echo," she said with a smile. "And yes, the forest is very beautiful. I practically live here."

And her laugh jingled along the forest, seemingly making the entire square glimmer with her beautiful voice.

The blue stallion didn't say anything; although the mare did give her name to them, he didn't feel obliged to give her his. What reason did he have anyway?

He felt the erge to just stalk away fromt the place but something occured to him; he got here first! He wanted to listen to the beautifully voiced wonder, Echo, and to converse with her, and no way was some random going to take away his entertainment!

So instead of paying any more attention to Red Velvet,the blue stallion took to looking into the pool, listening to Echo speak, and generally ignore the other pony...

Echo saw clearly that NeonCobalt did not appreciate the new mare's presence. She looked at him drink, and then smiled briefly to the red mare. She felt she should get rid of her, if she failed to take a hint. She did not wish to be rude, but she felt an obligation towards the stallion she had met first. She would catch the other mare later, she was sure.

"It is nice to meet you, Red Velvet," she said with a dip of her head. "I am sure we could... talk again later." She paused, waiting for the mare to take her cue.

The beautiful red mare stepped back a bit and smiled. "Well, I guess I am bothering you, huh? Well, I'll see you guys later!" She said as she turned the other way and trotted away.


Once she was distantly away from those two she slowed into a walk. "Well, THEY weren't very nice! The stallion wasn't anyway." She said to herself so no one could hear. "And I'm one of the prettiest mares in this town! The stallion should've at least admired my beautiness." She slowly shook her head and left the forest.

Quietly, Echo watched the red mare go. When she had disappeared into the woods and her footfalls had stopped carrying back to them, Echo turned back to the stallion, a soft smile on her lips.

"I do hope I wasn't too rude," she said gently.

[*falls to the ground and laughs uncontrollably*

I hope I don't have to. He thought in reply to what the mare had said to them. The unicorn looked oddly pleased with himself, flicking his tail side to side, when the mare had left, though he knew well that he had the pegasus to thank.

He tossed back his brightly coloured mane, but did so that only the left side of his face could be seen from where Echo was. The visible firey orange eye, once again had its bright shine to them.

"I do hope I wasn't too rude,"

"Not at all, not at all." He said shaking his head with a half smile. "If anyone was rude, it would of been that Red Violet mare." NeonCobalt wrinkled his nose in distaste, yet sighed, calming down and smiling at Echo with equal softness.

"Then again, I myself was being rude as well, so I can't really say much. I apologise for my behaviour..." He said to her, moving his head so that his left eye had a full view of her. "...Did you really want to talk to her?"

Echo laughed, and again it was as though the little forest clearing had been lit by her voice. She hopped off, on her wings, and made a circle around Neon Cobalt.

"Not particularly," she said, "but I take it as my habit of not be prejudiced against anyone on first sight."

She suddenly reduced her size into that of a small bird's size, and stopped to hover in front of the stallion's muzzle. Her smile was gentle.

"I do rather converse with you, however," she said.
